This title - as many of you have noted - was long in the schedule. It's really one of the titles that our Facebook followers voted on last year, but we went on a bit of a hiatus and the title was shelved until now. The Bach Guild catalog isn't overly stuffed with Mendelssohn, in fact, about half of this Little Big Box is from additional catalog sources. There's the greatest Mendelssohn hits here - and some contributions from Fanny Mendelssohn as well. The inclusion of her piano concerto and solo piano works help give this title its special moments - those moments where we present items from the catalog that have been long out of print. This title has a few - there's an "augmented" performance by the Fine Arts Quartet of Mendelssohn's Octet (a standard measure) that dates back to the 1950s and that hasn't been heard at least that long. We've included the Royal Philharmonic performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream instead of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra's performance because the Royal Phil offers all of the incidental music, a charming extra to this bubbly, shimmering Little Big Box.
